Rainbow Sun SSLRainbow Sun Sports Study League is a part of ADF's after school program. We run the program every Saturday from 9:45AM – 12AM at George Brink Sports Club in Sunnyside. The program started in early May and now has more than 10 registered children who live in Sunnyside. Currently Rainbow Sun’s activity is PE (Physical Education) and Soccer.

About Rainbow Sun SSL

The after school sports and recreational activities started out in Sunnyside ward 59, sector soccer 5 of the community development forums with envisaged national growth. The program is primarily a health, educational and recreational program in one presented to the community of Sunnyside by the ADF under the name Rainbow Sun Sports Study Program abbreviated to Rainbow Sun SSL incorporating members of the community, Sector 5 of Sunnyside.

Rainbow Sun SSL PEThe Rainbow Sun SSL is a community league set to benefit the children within the inner city who normally have less means to participate in sports at school and access to enough space to play. The frontline facilitators for the program will include university students, coaches, guidance councilors, teachers amongst others from within and nearby communities. Participants are drawn from the various blocks of flats, to make up two to three teams for the square (example of square in the block “Unit” 700 is blocks of flats contained within eg. Jorrissen to Vos to De kock to Plein and back to Jorrissen). Sector Playoffs are a contest amongst the various blocks that make up the sector. The winning participants will be award with accolades mustered and presented by the RI in collaboration with stakeholders.

During the course of the year children will partake in various sports and activities such as football, netball, basketball, spelling b, math Olympiad and science fair. The participants will benefit from the physical education and competitive sports playing. The inclusion of sporting to the after study program is accelerating the growth of after school study groups thus turning out to be a good model towards the enhancement of scholarship and industriousness. The positive results of sports will yield include health, self esteem, confidence, discipline, planning and execution, leadership. In the inner cities of South Africa, children from low income neighborhoods have limited access to physical education, afterschool study and sport. Lack of exercise and which is caused by lack of exercise and in some instances within the inner city lack of security. We aim to establish community safety and security as a cross sectoral through the community policing forums to keep the children safe and keen to carry on with their extra curricular activities. Through education and sports we support a number of national and international development objectives.
